First day at the college

After 5 hours waiting at Auckland Airport, it was a relief to board the plane to Queenstown. The arrival into Queenstown itself was spectacular with brilliant views over the VERY close snow-covered mountains. We were met at the airport by the college's director and then all the students were dropped off at their various homestay families. John and I had the chance to meet each family and have a look at the houses in which our students will be staying for two weeks. Everyone seemed so friendly and welcoming and all the students appeared to be very happy.

This morning we caught the school bus into the college and it was clear that everyone was very excited and had had a good first night with their host families. Now the students are taking their placement tests while John and I are using the world's slowest computers :-) The weather is not especially cold but it is raining a little. From the college classrooms, there are fantastic views off the surrounding mountains. The college is set in a really beautiful location. Later today, I will go to an internet cafe to upload some photos as the computer I am currently using is a dinosaur :-)

I'm sure our students will get healthier when they get back coz they've got plenty of unpolluted air and amazing views. It's cold here but not too cold. It feels like 8 or 9'C in HK. A bit cloudy at the moment but no rain. I hope we can have good weather soon.
